Sunderland: Culture In Motion for Sunderland EXPO (2025)
A motion graphics piece I created earlier this year. I directed, designed and edited it, leaning on an extensive archive of photography from Sunderland Libraries Service. The most challenging and rewarding thing I've ever worked on, it took about 2 weeks from start to finish. I worked with a talented musician, Adam Hynes, who helped me to mix the sound and created an incredible soundtrack. The piece was used on a cinema sized screen in Keel Square, Sunderland to celebrate Sunderland EXPO, an event to celebrate the transformation of the city centre.
Here's the official blurb:
Created for Sunderland EXPO, Sunderland: Culture In Motion is a visually compelling animation and motion graphics piece, incorporating reimagined archival material alongside bespoke graphics and photography. The film celebrates Sunderland’s culture and creativity, from its glassmaking heritage and industrial strength in shipbuilding and mining, to its leisure pursuits, love of football and entertainment.
Looking both backwards and forwards, the piece aims to honour the spirit, pride and connection of our community.
